Davis Law Group is a full-service shale oil and gas law firm that provides Certified Title Opinions to producers, investors, and mineral buyers. Additionally, the law office is equipped to complete any curative requirements and handle litigation related to mineral rights and industry-specific issues.
“Our attorneys are dedicated to increasing their knowledge about the ever changing shale oil and gas industry and providing the highest quality legal service to our clients,” relayed Cara Davis, Principal, Davis Law Group.
Admitted to practice law in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Stephanie Skeen is one of those attorneys. Growing up in North Carolina, Skeen says, “I loved criminal law and wanted to be a criminal defense attorney.” She pursued a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and then earned her Juris Doctor from Appalachian School of Law in 2011. In Law School, Skeen was a recipient of the Willard Owens Award for Excellence in Community Service and served as the Justice of the Sutin Chapter of Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity, International.
Appalachian School of Law is located in a small coal mining town in the Appalachian mountains of Virginia. “Naturally there was an emphasis on Environmental and Natural Resources Law,” relayed Skeen, who added, “My law school has grown even since I graduated. They now offer a Natural Resources Law Program and are partnered with Virginia Tech to offer a joint Certificate of Graduate Study in Natural Resources.” While attending Law School, Skeen was a managing editor for the Appalachian Natural Resources Law Journal, in which she also had an article published on the topic of coal mining in Appalachia in the spring of 2011.
“Living in this region for three years, along with joining the Appalachian Natural Resources Law Journal and taking Environmental Law classes, really piqued my interest in the energy industry as a whole. When I had the opportunity to work as an abstractor in Pennsylvania and Ohio, I ended up discovering a passion for the shale oil and gas industry, which really surprised me,” expressed Skeen.
Skeen is a mentor in a program through her law school that matches third year law students who want to pursue a career in Natural Resources/Energy/Environmental Law with an alumni that works in that field. She was also a mentor with the Shale Academy. Going back to her love of criminal law, Skeen says she would still love to volunteer her time one day to an organization, like the Innocence Project. She is also a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association, Michael Late Benedum Chapter of the American Association of Professional Landmen (AAPL), Northern Appalachian Landman’s Association, and Young Professionals in Energy (YPE), Pittsburgh. In her free time, Skeen enjoys playing with her two Great Danes, antiquing, baking, and exploring Pittsburgh with friends.
Since joining Davis Law Group (formerly known as The Law Offices of Cara C. Davis) in November 2013, Skeen has executed work for the Utica and Marcellus Shale basins, working with shale oil and gas law by providing due diligence and base title examinations, curative reports, and certified title opinions. Skeen expressed, “I enjoy that I am constantly learning something new about all different aspects of this industry.”
The attorneys at Davis Law Group, including Skeen, have pushed the firm to become a leader in shale oil and gas industry law. In 2014, Davis Law Group won the Northeast Oil & Gas Awards’ Law Firm of the Year award and has been named as a finalist for the 2015 awards, which will be held and announced in March. Davis Law Group is located at 4313 State Route 51 North, Belle Vernon, PA 15012. To contact Davis Law Group, call 724.243.5005 or email email@example.com.
